The theology of John Calvin and his followers is frequently identified as the theological basis of "disenchantment", characteristic of modern Western society. Many times the Calvinist doctrine of the sacrament is highlighted as a focal point of criticism. This article presents an outline of the sacramental doctrine in the Calvinist tradition, and shows how the Calvinist doctrine of the Holy Supper sustains a vision of communion between the believer, the creation, and the Triune God.
